Convinced of the need to be a conent curator in my school - looking for the best way to start this, how to implement a manageable plan and ways to increase my content curation competency.

Lucy Wyatt's curator insight, October 7, 2013 12:44 PM

With students accessing different kinds of material and the same material in different ways, the OPAC and vertical file may not be the best way to lead your students to the best content.  This article shows differing ways of attacking the problem.

Leigh Zika's curator insight, June 12, 2015 9:34 PM

Good examples of content curation tools for school librarians and teachers/students.

McLuhan (1911-1980): medium is message - Gutenburg to Zuckerberg | Library & Information Science | Scoop.it

In essence, McLuhan opened our minds to the role of technology and media by asking the right questions. He wanted to know how technology and media affect our minds, habits, society and culture. Late in his life he gave us, what in my opinion, is his most useful piece of work – the tetrad. His "tetrad" of four media laws tried to clarify the nature & impact of a technology or medium

A Companion to Digital Literary Studies - Imagining the New Media Encounter -

Via Stalder Angèle
Stalder Angèle's curator insight, February 22, 2013 4:23 AM

"We thought we knew what "writing" means, but now "encoding" makes us wonder (and vice versa). So, too, "reading" and "browsing" (as well as related activities like searching, data-mining, and data-visualization) destabilize each other. The same applies to all the other pairs in this list, and many others that could be added. The task of studying new media, it might be said, is to help us better to understand what it meant to write, read, and imagine in the past; while, inversely, that of studying old media is to help us appreciate what it now means to encode, browse, simulate, etc. "Digital literary studies" should make that possible.

"We" are always mediated creatures, and as such are fully alive in culture when old and new media — the ancestors and children of our self images — collaborate to allow us to encounter the imagination that we could be other."

Stalder Angèle's curator insight, February 22, 2013 4:30 AM

Writing, Encoding, Reading, Browsing, Publishing, Transmitting, Preservation,

Migration, Absorption, Immersion, Mimesis, Modeling, Imagination, Simulation.

Rayward's Otlet Page: Paul Otlet and Documentation

Recent studies have been on Paul Otlet’s ideas in relation to hypertext and the beginnings of modern information science, a number of utopian schemes of knowledge organization including H.G.Wells’s idea of a world brain, and, from a historical point of view, the implications of digitisation and networking for libraries and museums.
